Summary of Weekly Newsletter, 31st August
The week the weather changed

This is the free weekly summary. The full version is only for our Early Bird Membership (£2 per month or £20 per year).
The Early Bird Membership includes a weekly(ish) newsletter and usually early access to our videos.
You might not have noticed it, if you are not living on a boat, in a boatyard on the Menai Straits, but Summer ended early this week and winter is on its way.
For us the impact is significant, our plans and progress are very much affected by the wind (speed and direction) and rain. At times, it feels like our plans get changed from hour to hour. That makes solid progress on a big task more difficult as you cannot work consistently if the job requires carpentry or painting etc which we have to mostly do outside.
Battery Panic update
Last week I promised more on batteries and electrics:
Our week was dominated by "Battery Panic", it has taken many years, many helpful people and lots of research that led to a major shift in our understanding of the power needs of our electric motor this week. This will be a costly change that we are still working out, albeit more optimistically today than a few days ago.
There is good news and 'we are still struggling' news.
The good news is the battery power for our electric motor and the struggling is how to the installation approved for insurance.
Boat Progress
Jane is very clear that the most significant progress is that I have fixed the leak above her side of the bed. But there is no picture (a short bit of video to come in the future). Besides that, the full newsletter has pictures of
- the teak sanding and oiling Jane did.
- Progress on the solar power,
- 12 volt house electrics
- Properly installing antenna cables
Anglesey Coastal Path
We managed walks on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, which means we have connected up some more sections opposite Caernarfon.

Videos
On Wednesday, we published this video:
I've just uploaded the next video which will go public on Wednesday although the Early Bird Supporters you get to see today. As a taster here is the thumbnail ;-)

On the Blog this week
- A lot of everything day

- Progress as the weather turns Are we going to have to change our priorities again
- One month anniversary On 29th July, we moved full-time onto our boat
- Let's talk about values Sustainability is a value that needs expanding
What's Next?
Sunday morning at St John's Methodist Church in Bangor for the 150th anniversary with Revd Dr Jonathan Hustler, Secretary of the Conference preaching (and a lunch).
Hopefully several deliveries that will unlock some of the tasks relating to solar, wiring and the wheelhouse cover. The weather looks pretty rubbish (50mph winds for Sunday lunchtime).
Despite the weather, hopefully Dave's weight loss will continue. Saturday marked 8kg lost since moving onto the boat, and he feels a lot better for it.
