New Video: Getting the Mizzen Mast UP!!!!
This is a huge milestone for us. We have done huge amounts of work on the mizzen so it's great to finally have the mast in place.
The list of work includes:
- Huge amount of strengthening below deck to support the mast
- Fully clean and refit the mast base onto a strengthened deck
- Remove some corroded fittings from the mast.
- Remove, clean and service the mast head including all the sheaves, new topping life attachment and block
- Remove, clean and refit the mast foot
- Paint the mast, spreaders and boom (2 coats epoxy primer, 2 coats undercoat, 3 coats top coat)
- Remove the spreaders., adapt for dyneema shrouds, paint and refit
- Fit AIS antenna to the top of the mast
- Fit WiFi boost antenna halfway up the mast
- Fit pipe inside the mast for the wires
- Make and fit 6 Acetyl tangs
- Make, stretch and fit 8 dyneema shrouds
- Massive new backing plates fitted for the chainplates
- Make, stretch and fit 8 dyneema chainplates
- Splice and fit 8 dyneema lashings (between the shouds and the chainplates)
- Put the mast back up
