Acceleration away from Billionaires

Recent events have led us to a significant acceleration this week.

Also we now have more than 3.5x more followers of SustainableSailing on Mastodon (https://mas.to/@SustainableSailing) than on Facebook.

So we have decided for ethical and health reasons to move faster to get away from the platforms that support hate, don't fact check, manipulate timelines for political reasons, are controlled by Billionaires and which sell our personal data while tracking us around the Internet.

As I write all our YouTube Videos are being made available, for free, without tracking and without ads on PeerTube https://cuddly.tube/c/sustainable_sailing/videos (35 available so far).

We have started to put our pictures on PixelFed and gaining followers fast, see https://gram.social/Sustainable_Sailing

So we are moving off all the platforms that support billionaires in favour of freedom.

  • From FaceBook & Twitter to Mastodon (we host a server you are welcome to join at amastodon.uk)
  • From WhatsApp to Signal
  • From YouTube to PeerTube
  • From Instagram to PixelFed (we haven't used Instagram, it never felt like a home for us)

- Google Search to DuckDuckGo

Our blog will likely stay on Wordpress (for the moment with wordpress.com but probably moving to self-hosting in the future). It will definitely still be at https://sustainablesailing.net/ if you subscribe we will be able to stay in touch.

I will be looking to migrate from gmail as well in the future.

I am working to end my addiction to Amazon.

We are voting with all our social media away from hate, profiteering, lack of privacy. Please don't loose touch there are so many options for you to be included in safe ways.

Remember that all the new sites we are using are easy to access. You don't need an account and you won't be tracked.

  • all of our content is available with a regular web browser.
  • All of the sites we use have free apps you can choose to use on your phone to find and potentially follow us and millions of others Mastodon (I prefer Tusky), Pixelfed, PeerTube, Signal.
  • All our social media is pretty much connected together (not always for every post). For example if you subscribe to the blog you can get an email when we post about a new video.
  • Many of the sites support RSS (or Atom) feeds and so you can use a website or an app that allows you to see updates from a single place see Why Everyone Should Still Use an RSS Reader in 2025 and Privacy-focused RSS feed readers
